The tenth World Russian People’s Council was held in Moscow from 3 to 5 April. The subject of this jubilee assembly was “Faith, man, Earth. Russia’s mission in the 21st century.” According to the statement for the press by the chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External church relations, Metropolitan Cyril of Kaliningrad and Smolensk, the center of the deliberations is the Orthodox view on human rights. “It is to my opinion that the historical success of the Council is in its managing to express the issue of human rights and freedoms in categories which the absolute majority of our people can grasp. This means that the subject of human rights and freedoms in our people’s understanding will cease being regarded as a political issue, as if it were some political weapon. And perhaps, with the revelation of this perspective, we enter effectively a new epoch of establishment of the legal society and the civil society constitution, in which human dignity will be respected,” said Metropolitan Cyril at the end of the press conference.
Traditionally, at the World Russian People’s Council participate not only the Orthodox, but also representatives of all the confessions in Russia.
Among the ones who greeted the participants of the Council was president Putin.
