Standing Conference of the Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas (SCOBA) in the cathedral of Saint Sabas in New York ( 10.05.2006 )

On Tuesday, 2 May 2006, the Serbian Orthodox Church was the host of the annual session SCOBA.

The Standing Conference of the Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas (SCOBA) brings together the canonical hierarchs of Orthodox jurisdictions in the Americas. Participating at this year’s assembly of the Orthodox hierarchs of America were: Archbishop Demetrios of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, Archbishop Nicolae of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of North America and Canada, Archbishop Anthony of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the USA, Metropolitan Christopher of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the USA and Canada, Metropolitan Joseph of the Bulgarian Eastern Orthodox Church, Bishop Basil of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese, the representative of the Orthodox Church in America Protopresbyter David Brum, and the general secretary of SCOBA Bishop Dimitrios of Xanthos.

Twenty-five members took active part at the session, discussing the joint missionary work, the canonical organization and constitution of all the jurisdictions. Regarding this subject, the Antiochian Bishop Basil talked about the various practices and customs among the jurisdictions, which sometimes negatively influence the overall mission of the Holy Church.

The conference of all Orthodox Episcopes in America is scheduled for 3-6 October 2006 in Chicago.
